When
I first read about GP I was thinking "I hope this isn't going to be a
bunch of AS kooks". I was wrong, what a great bunch of guys.
Ophelia, we loved ya - until you kicked us out.
Saturday: Waking up at 3am to drive to Avon wasn't
the shocker. Tanking up 21 gallon gas tank at 3.39 or so a gallon was a
shocker. Wow, gas for this trip is almost going to cost as must as
food/lodging! Left Asheville around 4am, arrived in Avon around
11:30am. Uneventful drive though I wish I had put more stuff on my
iPod, I was bored with the tunes before I hit Raleigh. Ran into Rod
& Beth at Food Lion and then KC and Lana at the house. Had a few
beers on the porch waiting for the house to get ready. House finally
available, unloaded my stuff.
After more of the troops appeared we went down to the hook for a later
arvo session. Took the Weber out for the first real surf it's been in
since I bought it from Chris. Lovely stick. Surf was ok, a bit dark due
to the 'canes churning up the coast but if felt good to get out.
Nachos for dinner. No one drank the Overproof Rum.
Sunday: Up early for double sessions. If memory
serves me correctly it was a bit nasty in the morning but cleaned up
nicely. Surf was great, no crowds. Arms well jello in the am, took the
sponge out in the arvo. On the return trip my Weber flew off of one of
the vehicles and suffered a nice ding. 3 other boards flew also, other
damage included a cracked finbox and some tail dings. :(
There is talk of Ocracoke being evacuated. Ophelia is moving around the
Atlantic in some odd pattern. Eventually the order is given for
Ocracoke to evac.
No one drank the Overproof Rum.
Monday: Beatiful double session day. Arms are still
jello so I sponge it. Damn @$@#$ fins SUCK, I end up buying a pair from
Rod that fit perfectly. Thoroughly enjoyable day. PM session is much
larger, a great time was had by all. A bitch to get out, for some
reason I didn't get pounded too bad. :)
No one drank the Overproof Rum.
Tuedsay: Smaller but equally as fun. We're paddling
around enjoying ourselves when we get the call - we have to evac. Most
of us end up way down the cove, on the way back to the vehicles we get
caught in a rain band. Damn that was nasty. Of course as soon as we
reach the cars it stops. We head back, clean up, then leave.
No one drank the Overproof Rum. KC is now the proud holder. :)
I'm pretty beat from a lack of sleep, I was going to head up to VB to
stay with my folks but decide to head back home. Walk in the door at
9pm.
All
in all a great trip. Wish Ophelia would have kept going in circles, I
wasn't ready to come home. Crashed on Wednesday PM at 6pm, woke up at
1pm on Thursday.
Have a good one, you'll be getting my ASC app soon.
