<>What
a week! We were let go a week ago today to prepare for Rita. I
left
work and ran home to pickup the yard as I was planning on heading to
San Antonio to stay with my wife. I got on the road (I-10
West-bound) about
6:15 pm and exited a few miles later at 7:30 pm and went back home. On
the way I noticed back-ups at each gas station I came to. I thought I
would get up in the very early AM and try again... I was up by 3 AM and
turned on the TV to see the traffic even more backed-up than before.
Criky! Reports of traffic delays were the story of the day along with
Rita updates, 175 MPH winds. Such was Thursday. Yikes!

I
had taken some precautions but hadn't restocked the pantry as I was
heading out of town. Upon checking I wasn't bad off and only lacked a
suitable liquor supply. I ventured out Friday and found many stores
closed and no gas stations open, period. I did find a Mom and Pop
store open and nabbed a case of beer. Friday evening I cooked up a
steak I found in the freezer and went to bed early with a full tummy
and hopes Rita would continue to hedge to the East. I awoke again
at 3
AM and the winds had picked up considerably while lightening flashed in
the heavens.
I'd
say we had tropical storm force winds with gusts in the low 70's. What
little rain we got at the house was driven by the force of the winds
and pecked at the windows. We got real lucky as Rita moved ashore East
of Houston. I didn't have any damage to the casa and while I did lose
power a couple of times it was off for less than a minute on each
occasion.
There should be some more sweet pictures coming out of S. Padre, keep an eye out at www.spadre.com
