I took an all-too-short break from the worst Baltimore winter ever to visit tropical paradise with JV and El Suicido. In the days prior to departure buoyweather.com was very promsing, but the swell failed to materialize. We did get surfable waves every day, but the 17th was the only day that produced consistent overhead surf. After six weeks out of the water, I was very, very happy to get wet. Sr Suicidio is an excellent tour guide. He knows the island, knows the language, knows the surf spots, knows where to find the best food, and knows how to drive Puerto Rico style. The place where he usually stays is absolutely killer. JV once again she proved to be an excellent travel companion. She put in a lot of time shooting (and subsequently, editing) video and stills, with excellent results. PR did not have a good winter surf season. The swell of the 17th was reported to be the first significant swell in 3 weeks. So the crowd factor at Wilderness was reminiscent of SoCal. I avoided the crowd and was rewarded with bigger, better, and more consistent surf, by paddling upcoast and surfing out in front of this well-known landmark Since I have surfed and travelled a lot with both Joanne and Rod, this was not a points-bearing expedition for me. However, I believe that this trip moves Rod into a tie for the AS Points lead. Foon, what are you going to do, to reclaim your rightful position on top of the AS Ponts heap?
