Alex
and I headed up to Wilderness early to beat the zoo and rendezvous with
my friend from San Juan, Pepe. Soon after we arrived, Jason from Cape May,
NJ, joined us out in the water. After a hour or so I spotted Pepe and his
van, but he watched from the shoreline. He later told me that he saw a
couple of guys try to paddle out and have problems so he decided to pass
and wait until later. He doesn't surf much anymore so is out of shape...
his last time out was in January with Alex and I. After nearly 3 hours
in the water I rode one in to escape the growing mass of waveriders and
share some times with my buddy.
After dropping Alex off at
the Villa, Pepe and I headed over to catch a few waves at Domes. I watched
for about an hour before eventually paddling out to cool off and catch
a few more. The waves were small but fun in a moderate crowd. After a couple
of beers at the Calypso we headed back to the Villa to pick up Beth and
Alex for a mid afternoon lunch at The Paradise in Rincón. The family
lunched on arroz con pollo y habichuelas rojas with sides of amarillos.
Pepe had chuletas and maduros. Fresh OJ all around (with some barrilito
in a couple). Rest of the day was spent drinking beer on our porch at the
Villa, napping, drinking some more beer and catching up with happenings
in our families and the Island over the past year. Around nightfall, Pepe
headed back home. |
