In-Transit Day, Balto-Rincon via Miami & San Juan
Cold and gray turning to warm & sunny
Beth, Alex and myself

Up early and off to the airport for the check-in and security lines on a cold and gray morning.  We hit the check-in cue but the situation was totally out of control with the line hundreds of yards long, wrapping around and behind the check-in counters, not moving and beginning to mingle with the security screening lines. The curb side lines were short so we opted outside where we moved quickly through the cue. Security screening lasted nearly one-half hour. At one point my gear was separated into three locations... not good. The flight went well and the connection in Miami was smooth, but Miami is not my favorite airport and to make matters worse we had to clear security screening once again (nonetheless, this airport is not as bad as Kansas City!).

We arrived on-time to San Juan, 2:30pm, but our luggage wasn't delivered until about 45 minutes later. We were starting to think it was lost or stolen in Miami. Catching the Hertz shuttle was quick, picking up our Camry couldn't have been easier, and to our surprise there was no significant traffic through the greater San Juan area.  No back-ups in the airport Isla Verde area through Santurce. The Autopista 22 was quick since at least half the toll booths were eliminated (mostly alternating in each direction). We made our usual Island drive rest stop in Hatillo at the El Buena Café for a late lunch (in the informal counter and booth section), relaxing and kicking back since we would not make Rincón before nightfall. With no significant breakfast and lunch I settled in for an arroz con pollo with lot's or habichuelas rojas, a side of tostones, and a couple of cafe con leches.
Check-in at Villa Cofresí was flawless... our customary room on the beach with a view north to the surf indicators zone and a couple of holiday cards awaiting us.

After unpacking the gear, popping the fins in the board, and applying a base coat of warm water wax, I kicked back and sipped a piña colada and looke dforward to wearing layers of SPF instead of rubber.
