August 10, 2009. Honolulu, Hawaii
Questions from Bob Green
Interview by John Clark and Photos by Bud Scelsa
http://www.rodndtube.com/paipo/interviews/JimGrowney/Jim_Growney_2009-0810.shtml
Bob and I drafted some interview questions and then set out to find somebody to do the interview. Bob did most of the early leg work here and established contact with John Clark, who graciously agreed to do the interview. John has written several books about the beaches of Hawaii and will soon be publishing a book, Hawaiian Surfing: Traditions From the Past. You will find sprinklings of information about the paipo in these books including the excerpt from the most recent one which is included on the MyPaipoBoards website. Also look for John and two of his boards on the home page under, "Rediscovery: The Reemergence of the Wooden Alaia Paipo Board." _________________ rodNDtube

I agree Rod did a fantastic job with the presentation and John kindly did the interview. I know John has now done two other interviews - hopefully they will be available for posting as well.
I am hoping to obtain information from two Australian paipo riders/builders from the 1960s & have a few other ideas. I reckon Mr Mike would have to be a candidate for some stories given how long he has been making boards. If there is anyone you think should be interviewed why not suggest their name and locale and we can see if they are interested.
I'm not sure if Rod has posted regarding the paipo timeline - this is another organic project contributions can be made to. Dust out the memory banks for people who made a contribution to the history of paipo boards and their contribution can be acknowledged.
