Has anyone ever tried putting neoprene in fins to prevent blisters/rubbing?
Im toying with the idea of putting neoprene in my duck feet fins, so I don't have to wear fin socks and put on Body Glide. I would preferre to put some neoprene on the inside of my duck feet so I wont have to put them on in the water. I say this because I went to makapuu(where I could'nt use my duck feet because of the shore break and the ammount of sand that would get in the fin socks) on a 4-6 day with my viper v7's and barely survived fighting the currents. _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! I stuck neoprene (with neoprene glue) on my previous fins where I gave me blisters and it worker well for me.
My latest fins are too tight to add neoprene so I try to spend as short time as possible in the shore break and I remove the fins - and the sand - when I'm out or between two waves if I have enough time. _________________ Frogsurfer |

Thierry, did you use the neoprene from an old wetsuit(or something similar) or buy neoprene pads? _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

Yes I cut a sleeve of an old wetsuit, because the neoprene is thinner on the sleeves. _________________ Frogsurfer |

What kind of glue did you use to attach the neoprene to the fins? _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

I used neoprene glue. It sticks well to ... neoprene but will it stick to your fin ?
You'll have to try it to know.
When it started to unstik, the glue stayed on the piece of wetsuit and not on the fin. _________________ Frogsurfer |

Finished putting the neoprene on one fin earlier this afternoon. Used an old wetsuit(thanks mom!) and some glue(don't know what kind; looked like tar, had the texture of rubber cement) that came in a small can that I got from the Xcel shop in Haleiwa. Its stuck on so far, might try it in the neighborhood pool in a few days. Hope it works and doesn't come off the first time. _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

Just finished the other fin. Supposed to be a good south swell this friday, will probably try using my modified fins then. Thierry, how long did the neoprene stay attached to the fin before it came off? _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

It stayed stuck for three or four weeks during my holidays ... with one or two sessions of about 2-3 hours a day ... so not very long but intensively tested. _________________ Frogsurfer |

Just got back from trying them out today, the surf was ok(it was windy, and blown out), but the fins did not give me blisters, and the neoprene stayed on _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

Last time I needed neoprene I bought some packaged for neoprene wader reapairs, also some neoprene wader repair glue. Many mainland sporting goods and fishing shops carry this, and it's available through mail order stores like Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop. Used to use old wetsuit material but didn't have any. |
