Those bellyboarders are a vigorous lot - no wetsuits allowed during the contest. Brrrrr. _________________ rodNDtube

It was a super day and you folks are always welcome! There was a good turn out despite the foul weather. I had a great day chatting with Andy from paipo glide and admiring his wonderful boards. It also gave me the chance to test my latest ply and epoxy creation. It's a really feel-good event in which the true spirit of surfing is embodied. As for temperature, it was warmer in the water with a pair of speedos than out of it standing in the pouring rain! |

It was really good to catch up with you Jon - I hope we can start getting some surfs together (wives and kids allowing!!!).
Poobah - Jack Johns is the new world bellyboard champion - he's also a pro booger. Last year a pro surfer won. I'm also still waiting for a full list of winners but will post as soon as I get them.
I'd put up 4 boards as prizes, longest ride, best trick, and best male and female gromett - I think they term gromett as anyone under 30! - Jack won the gromett prize as well.
The waves were pretty epic for the day and the vibe, as always, was brilliant - just a shame about the rain.
theres a photo of Jack on my blog - http://paipoglide.blogspot.com/
(where you'll also see a blunt paipo glide bellyboard!)
and theres a lot of photos on the world bellyboarding facebook site |
