Ok, so I'm new to the whole board building thing. I made a handboard for my first test to see if I could even do it. It looks good but I don't know what to seal it with. I have heard linseed oil is the best from a bunch of carpenters. I would also like to build an alaia/paipo about six feet long. Help me out i need pointers! |

if you oil it, boiled linseed oil or tung oil, I know somebody(no names please) that uses hemp oil will work fine. but you need to reapply it every two to three month. I use minwax halmans spar varnish about 4 to 6 coats lasts for years and easy it fix when you drop it on the street. _________________ PAIPO ON

you can make it out of any wood you would like. flotation is much over rated. I have made them out of oak, black walnut, redwood, lacewood, cedar and others but a lot of alaia are made out of paulownia wood, sometimes hard to find and not cheap. If it was my first one I use a cheaper cut of wood like cedar or redwood they are lighter than most wood and cheap
