You don't know how many people ask about how the name came about. I've heard em all multiple times. Will tell at some point, it's really quite basic. But, until then, might be a good game if you all came up with some guesses.

I thought about the Mr. Brown thing, but not all of the boards are fish...some are crescent tailed. So maybe it's a reference to some kind of brown fish? Trout fight their way upstream, and handboards oppose the mainstream?? How about Cobia? They trail sharks, turtles, and mantas in hopes of scavenging a meal....sort of like a handboarder ghosting the other surfers to scavenge unwanted waves??
FWIW...I suggest a Fred Johnson Model...he was the one-armed handboarder in that old TV show, "The Fugitive." |
