I've come across some more material which might be of interest but also have a few questions:
1: On Google books can be found a title: Hawaii sports: history, facts, and statistics By Dan Cisco Page 440 has some paipo info
2. For some paipo photos: http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewPicture&friendID=74295835&albumId=594380
3: January Issue, Vol. 4. 1984. Surfing Magazine. Big Breaks in the Early Days. I haven't seen this but believe it has a story regarding Mike McKerracher & the wedge. Anyone know of a site that has pictures of Mike's paipo?
4. A couple of films that might contain paipo. Anyone seen these?
BLUE SURF-ARI
Bob Evans - Ride A White Horse (1968) or Surf Trek to Hawaii (1961).
5. Around the 7 minute mark soe great body surfing at makapuu

6. I found a 1994 ad for a bellyblogger which I will get scanned - it A3 from a Tracks mag.

Good stuff bgreen. Love those shots of Publics on that guy's myspace page. I became well acquainted with those coral heads in the foreground when I was a kid. |

Hahahaha, me too. When I was still was bodyboarding, I went out on a 2-3 foot day and caught 2 waves because of those "anti ship mines". Still remember taking a minute to look below me for coral heads before I duck dived. Have to go back some time with my paipo. _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

Og-Azn,
I recall seeing this one a while back but forgot about it - Stop the Wave. I think a link was posted by Nels, but the URL is no longer active.
The guys are flying - also interesting is the brief clip of the guy whose board basically bounces out of the wave. Difficult to tell if this is a result of chop/wind or the design not handling the speed/hollow section.
