It was a great presentation. Tom is such a nice guy. It's great talking to him because he has a lot of love for riding waves not just "Surfing". He has no problem going from riding giant Hawaiian swells to riding belly boards in two foot shore break. The day of his presentation in fact, he and his family went out to Cardif reef for a belly boarding session. His Alaia boards are real pieces of art. It's amazing how much shape you can actually have in such a thin board. All the boards he had there had convex decks and bottoms. I was also really impressed with the Paulownia wood. It's was real light but stiff and durable. Tom's brother is working on a lot of different designs as well. He's working with some pro surfers like Rob Machado and others to really push the limits of Alaia boards. I left the presentation so stoked! _________________ So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love. |
