Terry tells me that Austin has shipped a couple more boards, one to Washington State and another one to New Jersey. Is this in addition to Terry's and KC's boards?
Those two pictured above are looking good - the first one is a spitting image of mine!
I trust you are marking them with my trademark now And, we expect a line of Austin Paipo T-shirts soon, too!
Troy: can you add dimensions for the two boards? _________________ rodNDtube

It is not often we have a commercial paipo board shaper in our midst... more often than not it is beg and cry. Well, not only do we have a reliable, talented shaper... he and his dad ride the paipo, too. And now, a t-shirt!

Hey Rod,
The start of something beautifull? Where can we get these shirts?
forgot to ask earlier: how is the float of these paipo's compared to a bodyboard? Just curious...
greetings,

Austin has not sent me the particulars on ordering the new t-shirts yet.
re: the float, less than a bodyboard and more than a HPD. It is probably not fair to say somewhere in-between because of the near neutral buoyancy of the HPD, but I am always surprised by the buoyancy of a bodyboard that is 10" shorter than my board (not as thick or wide as a bodyboard and my board all that fiberglass and resin weighing it down). _________________ rodNDtube

Hey Rod,
Our web guy Nick just emailed me and said that he now has the shirts online. They can be found at
http://www.austinsurfboards.com/merchandise.htm
You can either use Paypal and purchase them online or we can take a Credit Card over the phone.
Since we last talked we have sent about 12 paipos out the door. Everywhere from Virginia, Maryland, California, and even a guy in the UK. The Paipos have even lead us into building quite a few kneeboards too. The two plus one fin setup seems to be working really well. It fits the people that just want side bites and the single fin guys as well. A few people have wanted little concaves and the template pulled in or out but the basic design that you (Rod) came up with seems to be a winner.
I call Austin's latest version shields due to the color pattern. The color is all pigment work and most of the time it is top and bottom. See the example below.

Rod,
Can you estimate how much less float than a regular size bodyboard? How much lower in the water do you ride when sitting on the board compared to sitting on a bodyboard? (I did some napkin calculations for Austin's board and estimated the volume of his 50" x 20" x 2.5" to be around 2100 cubic inches for an expected buoyancy of around 70 pounds.)

A wild ass guess would be about 20 percent less float - the number may be larger. The Austin board easily "floats" me while paddling, but when sitting on it can easily be submerged underwater as shown here (no wetsuit, just lycra and baggies)

Probably a little over $400 - maybe try to avoid tax since you're from Texas. KC bought one during the past year - you might want to touch bases with him (not that he's had a chance out in the water much yet).
Are you flying into Norfolk this year? If so, you could probably pick it up that Saturday morning. _________________ rodNDtube

Yes sir, ORF it is. Yeah my flight arrives around 2 pm so once I collect my bags and get the rental it'll prob be after 3 pm. Did a search yesterday and it's not that far a drive from the airport to the shop. I'll have to call the shop and see what's what.

Austin does some great work - specializes in classic longboard shapes and materials - so you can set yourself up with fancy tail blocks, stringers, etc., but I like most of all the solid craftsmanship and good glass and resins. I have my boards made extra tough to take the beatings of airline & road trips. _________________ rodNDtube

You might very well get a good session or two from the remnants of Tropical Storm Alma (now called Invest 90L) along your Texas coast. _________________ rodNDtube

This past Saturday I took delivery of the Checkered Paipo by Austin.
http://www.rodndtube.com/paipo/Paipo-09CheckeredDVIII.shtml
I look forward to giving this greyhound version of my basic paipo design a good test drive in Costa Rica in the very near future. The Checkered Disk is about 1/4 inch narrower and thinner - she should hold those lines very nicely if her rider treats her well.
