Hi everyone. I'm a longtime bodyboarder and just joined this forum after lurking for a while. This place seems to have a refreshing vibe that is missing from a lot of bodyboard forums. As I told Rod, it most likely has to do with the age/maturity level of the people posting Very Happy

Another reason why I joined this forum was to hopefully connect with some local paipo riders. I've never had access to a paipo and would love to try one out. Any FL paipo gatherings in the works? It would be nice to trade waves and boards with some paipo/mat/boogie/etc.. riders. I'm in FL, in the West Palm Beach area, but I do road trips pretty frequently. Hope you all have a great day and catch some waves!

dksnap, you're about to get a famous Florida "refracto" swell starting tomorrow or so. I had an idyllic session this morning at Juan Ponce deLeon Landing in Melbourne Beach. Not another surfer in sight, shoulder-high glassy peaks, and I was riding my Mysterious Turtle solid balsa paipo, which is 5 feet long. It now sports a translucent green 8" Greenough Stage 6 fin. Ahhhh, what a fun session! I needed a spring suit, but I never got cold out there. Florida is perfect for paipo boarding... come to think of it, I guess EVERYWHERE THERE ARE WAVES is perfect for paipo.

I haven't been down to Jupiter, Juno Pier, or Singer Island for quite a while, but I have in-laws in WPB, so perhaps I could give you a shout before I come down there sometime.

There's virtually no real hard paipo action around Florida. Here on the Space Coast, I've never seen another person, other than my wife, surfing on one. My wife and I have four hard paipos between us, and about seven Wave Skaters between us, so we're loaded for bear. So -in short- WE'RE THE GATHERING. Rod came down here once. I encountered him miraculously at Picnic Tables and we had a nice session together, followed by food, beer, and music at DaKine Diego's.

If you come up this way, give a holler before hand. Cell: 321-917-4530.

Hey Tumak, I don't think I've met you, but we used to be practically neighbors. I lived right off the eau gallie causeway, Indialantic side, from...let's see... '97-'02. Used to ride Spessard a lot. I know the Juan Ponce DeLeon park you are talking about...it wasn't built yet when I lived there (I think it was a bunch of dirt at that time), but I've seen it on recent trips to the area. Looks like a good place to get away from the crowds!

That would be fun to get together with you and your wife for a sesh. I would love to try out the paipos and wave skaters! Now that I think of it, I think I may have met your wife out bodyboarding once. I think you said her name is Jan in a previous post, or was that someone else? Anyway, I know I've bodyboarded with someone named Jan at B'walk way back when. My name is Allison, btw. I guess I remember those things since there are so few of us women in the water, especially non-standups Cool

I have a 5 day weekend off work coming up, so I was planning on coming up to the space coast during that time. I will definately give you guys a holler. Let's hope for some glassy surf (and warm weather for this spoiled south Floridian Laughing)

Hey dksnap - Okay, give us a call! We didn't get our first paipos made 'til June of '02, and didn't ride any kind of bodyboards until the Wave Skater thing happened last summer. Whatever the case, lets do some wave riding.

When is that long weekend coming up? This weekend? There's supposed to be a substantial (though chilly, I'm sure) north swell by Monday, I think. I'm an acupuncturist, and business has been a little slow, so I should have time to get together somewhere in there.

Yep, right after I posted that yesterday, I checked the weather forecast...cold front coming! So we should have waves. My long weekend from work starts tomorrow, for Presidents' weekend. We are camping in Hobe Sound from Sun-Tues, so I'll probably make the trip to Brevard Sat or Sunday (Fri doesn't look too promising). I'll be checking the reports to see which day looks best.
