I bought this fixer-upper last month on ebay. Anybody ever hear of DCS? It also has an array of FCS plugs for a 4 fin set up...well at least a main fin and small fang fin on each side. Interesting double barrel concave. I'm tempted to put a double tunnel fin on it.

What a steal! The owner was right on with the elbow pads up front. _________________ rodNDtube

The 3 leash plugs are also curious. Perhaps a refinement of the 2 plug rope handle into a 3 plug V-shaped rope handle. |

I don't know...I wanted to try kneeboarding kind of late in life and at the time everybody put leash plugs near the tail, with a choice of sides of the board. I ended up ordering from Rob DiStephano and later corresponded with him, mentioned that I would think it would make more sense to have them near the nose and for kneeboarders to use more of a bodyboard style arm leash rather than something on the leg or ankle. Still seems like that would make more sense. With your new ride it looks like someone augmented the bodyboard-like nose for going left, going right, or keeping the options open.
But what do I know? |

The rope would be angled the wrong way. Putting your elbow on the pad and laying your arm down forward and closing the fingers around a handle in a natural fashion results in a horizontal grip at the nose or even one that is angled slightly down to the side from horizontal if the arm is extended vertically. (Or at least it does using my own admittedly non-standard musculoskeletal configuration.)
I think that this implies the design was made to accomodate a grip strap or rope running between the two top plugs and with an arm leash attached to the center plug. There is also a leash attachment line already on the center plug.
At least that's how I would rig it.

After re-examination, I think I agree with that. I wouldn't rig it up that way, if it were originally my board, but then I'm barely out of the proverbial trees when it come to leashes anyway...still don't use them on anything I don't stand on, and held out there until I realized that there just about weren't any surfers left who experienced life before the leash...they would just sit or lay on their boards when people wiped out in front of them, frequently closer than I would be comfortable with even knowing a leash was in place. |
