"Ridout board" is a local San Diego term that applies to boards made from PU insulation foam purchased from a local plastics supply company named Ridout. It was cheaper than regular surfboard foam and gained popularity in the late sixties when a lot of short board experimention was happening. I remember even John Mel was using Ridout at that time. The back yard builders also used it for economic reasons. Here's an example of a Ridout back yarder. It rides much better than it looks. Which proves once again that you can't judge a board's soul by it's cover.

The fin is another sign of the times. Plexiglass fin set in a resin foundation. No fiberglass lapping up the side of the fin, but some extra glass over the top of the footing.

The rail template sure brings back memories -- wow, how it went hard quickly in the transition from up rails to down rails, and hard. _________________ rodNDtube
