I think felt could be great so long as you got a really tightly woven one that did not suck too much water up and get heavy when wet. |

Real men use skateboard deck traction...I'm just saying. |

Hell ya, just splash a little wet poly resin on the deck and toss a handful of sand on there. Ready to rip in an hour (pun intended) |

I never really thought about using felt for a traction pad before, but it sounds pretty interesting. So while I’m sitting here, thinking about where I could get some felt, an idea came to mind.
They sell peel and stick indoor/outdoor carpeting at Home Depot and I have seen it used around swimming pools with pretty good results. From what I saw, it seemed to be holding up just fine in spite of hot sun, being wet most of the time, ground in sand and plenty of traffic. I think I’m going down there tomorrow and dig a little deeper. |

Had to do it. Kind of labor intensive but looks ok and based on "tank testing" should work well. Apparent template asymmetry is photo illusion from foreshortening. Actually moderately even side to side
I like the HD indoor/outdoor carpet idea though, depending on price. |

Indoor-outdoor carpet...check it out but I think that stuff is too ruff. Rug burns!
Felt is available in craft stores, probably fabric stores. |

I tried indoor outdoor carpet and the board almost sank when it got wet holds to much water. felt might do the same. poobah uses cork on the deck does not suck up water and adds some exter buoncy and can be oiled and sanded _________________ PAIPO ON

Yeah but w/ the carpet, if the surf is flat you can use your paipo deck as a putting green! |

Felt...thinking later last night that when wet probably has no structural integrity. Wife knitted bags, soaked them and worked with her hands to 'felt" them. |

How about shark skin? We tried it on skateboard decks years ago...leopard shark skin. Anbody ever try it in the water? I was thinking just for the hand grips. |

Computer mouse pads (mouse mats to some) were mentioned in an older thread. I never tried it myself, but I like the idea of gluing unwanted or unpopular mouse pads onto a board as opposed to putting them in the landfill. |

They are jacking the price on the pretty ones. When it comes to plain or ugly mouse pads, might as well spend a little more and get wader gaiters...more material, fresher and better quality. IMHO.
In the end hard to beat wax for a buck. |

Oh man...that early 70's surf wax called "Orange Stuff"...I can't smell anything orange without thinking about that, laying that on the deck of a board, smell of saltwater and oranges...if that's the last thing I smell before I change skies it'll be a good transition. |
