This is just a teaser! I was hit by an idea while walking the dog this afternoon. It almost knocked me off my feet! I should have the fins and the hull done by tomorrow, and I'll post pics as I go!

Here's a shot with the rails glued on. Tomorrow I'll be sanding/grinding the spoon-nose/hull-bottom in. I've also cut out a template for the twin keels, and marked out their placement. I'm calling this one the "Purri", in honour of the Guy who motivated me to start thinking outside of the square!

I got the hull and spoon sanded out, and the fins foiled. They wont be as big as they look, they're just resting on the board in the pic. The 12mm thick section at the base will be in the board. _________________ "It's not a beer-belly, it's a displacement hull"

Here she is!!!! I did my best to exercise some kind of patience, but the paint job is what it is! It was meant to be a Greenough homage, but it's a bit rough, due to my craftsmanship always falling into second place behind my keen desire to immediately ride everything I make! A couple of coats of urethane and we'll be hitting the waves! I'll be posting a ride report, and maybe even some video footage, if I can convince the wife to sit on the point with the camera for an hour or so!

Looks cool! Are keels just tacked on with epoxy or some such or routed in? |

the keels are routed in. I left them quite big and thick so that I can tune them as I go! _________________ "It's not a beer-belly, it's a displacement hull"

Cool! Thick can be good so long as you have good foil. My mind has failed and I can't remember and can't find notes but used to know performance characteristics of thick vs thin fins. I do remember they were notable and depending on waves you were riding one would be much superior over the other. I think Greenough used some very thick based, high aspect fins on later edgeboards...
Anybody know this bit of tech? |

its weird but gg used 3/4" i have used both thick and thin (1/8") and you basically get used to either one. i think other things come into play more. base and length of base, rake, height, flex etc. experiment.... _________________ soulglider

Likely cord, rake, flex etc may have greater effect but the absolute thickness is supposed to make a big difference. I think maybe depending on speed. Thin better for slow or fast, thick for the other... |

BJ,
How does it ride. Those fins look a bit big to me.
