I'm gonna have a go if my work schedule permits. Surf from the south has been dismal. HiPaipo, can you go? |

Got this in the mail today from Mike Kliks.
2010-2011 MAKAPU`U CLASSIC REDWINGS MEMORIAL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS OF HANDBOARDING AND PAEPO BOARDING TO BE HELD AT MAKAPU`U OCEAN WATERS HOLDING PERIOD: DECEMBER 4, 2010 THROUGH JANUARY 22, 2011
"Aloha na hoa: the REDWINGS Events Committee was unable to hold the annual REDWINGS Memorial World Championships of Handboarding and Paepo Boarding at our usual venue, the Point Panic Ocean Waters, before the end of the holding period (October 31) due to the absence of waves of the size and quality required. As in the past we have decided to move the contest to the Makapu`u Shore Waters to take advantage of the favorable fall and early winter surf conditions there. Permits are in place for all weekends in December and January so. . .watch the surf reports and stay tuned!" |

Oooh makapuu, great scenery but I don't think I'm experienced enough to participate heavy rips and a big shorebreak during the winter which I have experienced firsthand... _________________ " NO SCARED UM, GO GET UM! " |

That's cool. I hope I'll be on O'ahu when they hold it. The old annual Makapu'u Bodysurfing Classic was a good contest that had paipo, handboard, & bodyboarding divisions. I remember one year when it was solid 6-8 ft+ Hawaiian size and really tough to make it outside - shorebreak closeouts of doom & ridiculous currents. Redwings shows up super late for his heat, manages to power swim out to the line up and ends up catching a left bomb from way outside in front of the rocks all the way across the entire beach, almost to shore. Then he turns around & powers back out again like it was nothing. One of the best big wave bodysurfers/handboarders ever. |

Sounds brutal... and fun! At least HiPaipo will be there to document the licking I'll get.
I will go if work schedule permits. (Anyone on O'ahu have a wooden board I can borrow?) |
