Using a surform on wood will give you plenty of cramps. HAH!!! Seriously, you better have a strong set of arms on you. I think better to use a real block plane etc. if you have much wood to remove.

I've always had better luck with a narrowed version of the basic HPD shape.You mean leave nose about same and pull rear end narrower for less "wedge" and not just slice width out down entire centerlin ... |
