GP2K1 Hotwash
by Rodino MacRodgers

Recovery operations have commenced.  The Guinness IV was removed late Tues
day night and the patient is currently being revived with a steady diet of
dark coffee and water.

This boy is waterlogged with memories of shared good times.  The surf
never had a chance to live up to last year's epic session in Rodanthe but
at least there were some fun waves to be had by all (except Sarge, but he
really dug his time anyways kicking back) everyone's liking. Todd's secret spot
in Frisco really sparkled the last couple of days during dead low tide as
the little left curls rolled cleanly towards the shore - great sessions
for the longboarding folks but not much for the shortboarders and very
shortboarders.

The last late afternoon day's hard blowing wind kept Todd
shorebound but provided a good chance for us to talk for a good while.
There were many sparkling gems at the GP, Todd being one of the big,
busting diamonds.  D2 was another.  That awesome Libra just kept pouring
it on and on and on, from the leias she made up for all to the daily
salads, Tuesday nights knockup meal of grilled swordfish steak, mashed
pots, and mushrooms, YUM.  And charge!  The wahine wants to surf!!!  Find
that pair of flippers soon. (Have Foon take you down to Shoreline
Boardshop -- they have an excellent selection - one of the largest
bodyboarding shops on the East Coast.).

The most gratifying aspect of the trip was sharing in the excitement and
satisfaction as several GPers honed and stoked their skills over a
sustained 4 days of surfriding.  'Lana ditched her smallish bodyboard and
is becoming an avowed paipo rider - plan to loan her a large paipo
that's gone unridden for a decade until she settles on that or that
bitchen' BigBraddah that D2 rides.  She is now talking up a rash of surf
trips to warm water destinations.  Charge it 'Lana!  #1 Paipo Wahine USA!

Keeping it in the family, KC's wave prowess improved daily.  The boy was
charging backside on the Frisco curls with a passion not witnessed in
quite a time.  This has to go down as his best group of sessions in at
least a year.  'Lana, Todd and I were hooting as the Kahuna gracefully
glided south, upright, hands clasped behind his back.  The reverse
walkoff pullouts were even more fun <g>.

Edmund never is in short supply of surf gusto.  If there is one person you
can count on for a dawn breaking surf check and go out it is him.  (I
*was* disappointed he didn't attempt the Lighthouse on Wed a.m.).  One of
my best moments in surfing was during our late afternoon session at the
Frisco Pier when Edmund beams around, crying out to the curls, the ASers,
the fishermen on the pier, "I CROSS-STEPPED, WOW! I CROSS-STEPPED FOR THE
FIRST TIME!!!"  The kid was an orgasm of green water joy!!!  The following
day he christened his new 8'2' funshape in Frisco's emerald waters -- it's
a natural fit for him -- after an initial wobbly adjustment he started
scoring waves all over the place (Rico:  next year's "wave hog" towel goes
to Edmund - get a version for a upright rider <g>).

Rambling on.  Scored some good times with SteveM in Va Beach Thursday and
Fri/Sat in OBX.  We shared several waves in front of DeeDee's Buxton
break and several laughs and brews.  Myroni's stay was way too short
again:  let's ramp up the Guidotime by 100% next year - that's only one
more night Myron (to be fair he is a new daddy and needed to get back to
attend family needs).  Shared some good talk with the smooth riding Gulf
Lake surfer, Andy, but not enough on this trip.  Hope to pick up where we
left off at the GP during a planned trip to Alabama/Ol' Miss during the
winter.  Mahalo for the excellente grilled sausages and kraut (to fully
experience this pleasure we desperately needed last year's Guido Express
Combo of Craig K and M@rk).

Ferg is another jewel in the AS shed.  We are very different guys, live a
very different life styple, but I feel a shared surfing bond.  Myself and
others especially enjoyed his storytelling style as he weaved through his
picture books of Mexico and Panama.  Very understated demeanor and a very
smooth, stylistic surfer... a joy to watch gliding across the face of a
wave.

Sarge remained elusive but we did share much more facetime this year
compared to last (Trish didn't make this trip <g>).  Expect to share more
surfing moments in the upcoming years.  The MD-ASers are ON IT for a
session at Cape May w/SS and M@rk.

Blue Saphire Man Neal shined (beamed) constantly during his GP stay.  The
man KNOWs how to prepare a grand breakfast spread, too.  I must admit to
taking a small nip of the Blue but Sapphire Man dusted that bottle
cleanly.  Did a damn nice job in those blue sapphire waters, too.  Think
we will just call him "Mr. Blue" from here on out.  Blue sapphire,
blueberry pancakes, blue water...

Foon was in fine form but I'm concerned about Joanne, especially with D2
sharing Tranquility Base the last night and now headed up to the Bunker.
Is there the makings for a lasting relationship here???  The Emcee
of Awards Night was a hoot with everyone scoring momentos.  What we seemed
to lack in shared waves on this trip will change this weekend as we wind
down GP week -- the DelMar area is lining up for some nice headhigh surf.
KC & Shawn and Alex and I look to be headed down to the shore on Sunday
and maybe we'll see Mr. Blue, too.  And GP wannabees, Kirk Mantay and The
Snake.

All I can say to JB, M@rk, and Doc is:  "Ya should have been here
yesterday!"
