GP better than sex!
by Neal Carver

OK...now that I have your attention....Here is my summary of the
GP2K1.  For starters I could tell that everyone was excited about the
event the GP e-mail was popping up at record pace.  Everyone was
talking about about thier supply list and and making plans for thier
arrival.  I got so so excited that I customized the nose of my
longboard with "GuidoPalooza 2K1" and an American flag.  I set my
alarm for 4 am even though I woke up at 3:00 and was ready to roll.
After six hours of driving (nonstop) I was in Avon.  I immediately
started checking surf spots and began to eye every car for the GP car
logos.  Well, I finally found a Motel by the lighthouse with several
GP logos accompanied with license plates from all over the east.  I
paddled out and found my self surfing with Edmund from Ohio and Andy
from Alabama.  Now you tell me...How often do you get to paddle out
with folks from such a vast surfing diversity.  I was already stoked
and we hadn't even checked into the T house yet!

That evening we all checked into our new abode.  What a place!  Decks,
hot tubs, fireplace (which was utilized on two nights),you name it -it
had it.  The T house was the center for all activity.  As everyone
arrived, we immediately melted into conversation.  Dee-Dee shows up
with fresh flower leis for everyone.  I'm talking Spirit with a
capital S.  The next day we were greeted with chest high surf at the
lighthouse.  Not the best surf but fairly typical of the east coast.
A lot of good rides were had but one had to work for them.  The winds
from the north were fairly strong.  Tired but relaxed I sat and
listened to Todd tell the tale of a secret spot that he surf all by
himself late in the day.  I listened like a good grasshopper.  He
advised me that the north winds were off shore at this location and
that the wind swell would wrap around the island.  "But" he said,
whispering in a low voice, "it will only work if one perfects the art
of patience and waits till the tide dropps low"  The next day we
waited like Master Todd had advised.  Sure enough, the swell wraped,
and broke thigh high.  Not big....but long and smooth.  My portion of
the GP ended the next morning with a dawn patrol at the same spot with
the early risers of the bunch.

I am back at home with a family thats happy to see me and home
improvement projects out the whaazoo. I still have a smile on my face
that will be there for a while.  It was so much fun that even the
manatees showed up in the line up (not a lie). There were a lot of
other incidents and occurences I would like to post about, but there
are just too many.  Anyway it was great to meet everyone and you can
count me in for next year!

I look forward to everyones stories!
