GP2K1 another summary?
by Edmund

Highlights of my time at GP2K1

Got in late Friday, down a quick couple of brews, followed Andy to his campsite
and slept in the van. Woke up early enough to avoid the guy on the golf cart
making sure there aren't too many cars at the campsite.

Saturday, hooked up with Andy for the first surf session, nice fun longboard
waves. Had to get out to get something in my stomach, and went to check out the
lighthouse. There ran into Myron who indicated the house was open, so I cruised
up to Avon to the T-Base. Noticed this guy outside of  Dee-Dee's door, wondered
about who it was but figured it was some tourist walking down the hallway/porch.
Later at the house, I found out it was Todd, looking for his board that DD had
in her room. Went back to DD's got Todd board and out for Session number 2. DD
paddled out with us this time and she was a real trooper, kept thinking she'd
gone back in, when she'd paddle back outside again. All this without fins.

Late that night Todd placed a bet with Sarge that I couldn't wake up by 6AM
without an alarm clock. (Glad you reduced that amount Todd) and after an
impressive night imitating Mark Sisom Bubba's Experience (sorry Andy, and Neal)
got up at 5:54 went up stairs where Steve awoke to verify the bet. Back to bed.

Sunday, not much surf, but lots of beer.

Monday, finally got in the water around 4PM with KC, down the beach from the
Frisco Pier, after a while went back to the pier where everyone else had shown
up and conditions had improved.

Had a nice little jam session with Dee Dee that evening in the downstairs den,
trading songs on acoustics for about an hour. Great playing music with you Dee.

Tuesday dawn patrol at the pier, beautiful morning, nice waves only the 4 of us
ASers for 2 hours. Kind of freaky when the bait fish all decided to jump out of
the water around me, but got used to that after not getting crunched for
breakfast by whatever was chasing them.

Tuesday dusk patrol, I decided to try out the new board Sarge graciously picked
up for me from his shaper. An 8'2" tri fun funshape from Fly surfboards, a far
cry from my 10' single fin Harbour. Also decided to trunk it, figured it would
be a good psych factor. The board was FANTASTIC, caught the first wave I tried
for on it, and didn't miss many after that. At first it felt a bit squirrelly,
but got it wired in no time.
Can't wait for some size and clean faces with it. A bit chilly without a
wetsuit, some of the others people out there had hoods on an stuff, but the
water was warm. One time I paddled over to a group of them and said loudly "It's
great to be surfing in such warm conditions" One guy looked at me and paddled
away kind of quickly, maybe he thought it was contagious. The hot tub did feel
good that night.

All in all a great time, I counted 13 hours of surf time out of  a possible 48,
probably 5 times that amount of beer time, and 100% of it a good time.

Glad to meet those of you I hadn't met before, and seeing those of you I have.

peace
edmund
