Adam
"Wanker" Mendizabal
Short/longboarder - Bethesda,
MD
I began surfing in Miami
Florida 13 years ago. Not really a surfing hotspot, but I would take knee
high wind chop in 80
degree water with girls
on the beach any day. Got my first taste of a NE winter up in New
Jersey 7 years ago and adapted to the cold water. I moved down to the DC
area in October of 2002 for work and unfortunately have become a true.
Usually I can be seen riding
my 9-2 Stewart Hydro Hull. However, when there is some juice, I like
to take a shortboard out. I also sometimes ride an old Dextra pop-out. |

Niewijk
Surfrider - Washington,
D.C.
I am a surfing foreign service
officer looking for surfing buddies and friends who in the future can visit
me once I am posted to a country (in 18 mos. or so) and surf in remote
locations. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay area, Sydney, Australia,
and many other places, but most recently moved to DC from NYC. I am a fairly
beginner level surfer. I went to the Las Olas women's surf camp in
Sayulita, Mexico last winter and have surfed on my own. I love it. Yes,
you can bring your surfboard on the NY subway and surf at Rockaway beach.
Looking forward to meeting you! |

Charles
Emile Monette aka "julienssurfingdaddy"
Shortboarder - Andrews AFB,
MD; Springfield, VA in 10/03.
I grew up surfing in Coronado,
CA. 'Nado's local beach is best described as rare and Hollow. I also
surfed La Jolla and Imperial Bch spots regularly. Spent a fair amount of
time surfing N. Baja spots; beach breaks, points and rock reefs. Best barrels:
Mainland Mexico, undisclosed location, black sand rivermouth/beachbreak
combo north of Acapulco and south of Mazatlan. Also surfed Oahu and Maui
a few times. Overall, I like fast, hollow waves the best. I surfed Assateague
one day last November, that's all the water time I've gotten in since moving
here in July of 02.
Current rides: 7'8" Curren
semi-gun -- shaped by the famous (Tom) Curren cousin who lives and surfs
in Pacific Bch, CA; 7' 10" MannKine "fun-board" and 6' 5" MannKine "super
curvy shortboard," both shaped by Dan Mannan. If anyone is interested,
the price is right and the boards are of superb quality, let me know.
I'm an officer in the Air
Force and I attend law school part-time at night. I look forward
to getting involved w/DC surfrider and ASC. |

Paipo/Kneeboarder/Shortboarder

Local surf zone: The jetty
on the south beach of Cape Henelopen Park, Lewes entrance - when there's
not too many folks. The waves have been a bit better on the south jetty,
Gordon's Pond. Age has slowed me down a bit. I find it harder to
work with my current stick: 5' 6" thruster. Looking for someone to
cut it down, reshape & reglass into a 42" knee-machine. Gotta pick
up a longer board for playing on the w/ends. Click here

in the

also lived in Haiti for about 2 years where I surfed very regularly at
a left hand rivermouth break in Jacmel. Due to my work, I have surfed in

Chris "The 7-Eleven Man"
Smith
Longboader/Funshape/Shortboarder
- Severn, MD
I started surfing with my
neighbors at their beach place in Nags Head in the late 60s. It took all
three of us to carry that 12' Hobie across the street to the beach and
took two of us paddling to get it moving, but we were having a blast. I
continued to surf the Outer Banks and Virginia Beach area until the mid-80s
when I graduated from college and with my "real job" I could not afford
to drive four hours to play at the beach. For the next almost two decades
I pursued other things until the summer of 2000, when a family trip landed
me in Avon, NC. I have been trying to find others looking to go surfing
with and now it looks like I finally found it thanks to my former co-worker
Curtis Miller. Click here

Surf History: I got my first

'90s... there probably aren't many good reasons to NOT surf. This year,
I got a chance to borrow a board and ride again. I stood up on my
first wave and had a lot of fun. I am inexperienced rider and I have
fun surfing the little waves and white-water. I now own/ride a 9’6”

It all began
early one summer in 1964. Born and raised on the Jersey shore I rode
my first wave at USO Beach in Long Branch, N.J. on a 9’2” Malibu. Worked
for a while at the Monmouth Beach Surf Shop (exclusive to Dewey Weber Surfboards)
Now 38 years and 16 boards later I am still riding and have returned to

I am 18 years old and have
always wanted to learn to surf, but never knew anyone who did. I used to
boogie board for hours whenever my family visited the beach, but my first

I can surf a lot more often and learn a lot more about it in the future.
Right now I'm going to school at AACC -- my major is graphic design.

I live and work in Germantown,
MD. I don't speak German. I grew up in New Jersey and started surfing there

and subsequent family responsibilities. Started back in 2 years ago and
looking to become more active in Maryland. I've been up to the Jersey shore,
Monmouth and Ocean County areas, three times in the last 6 weeks. I don't
know that much about Maryland beaches having moved here about 4 years ago
and always opting for the familiar trip to NJ.

Renzi
Bodyboard - Baltimore Co.
- MD
I have spent every summer
on 36th street bayside of OC/Md since 5 years of age. Fell in love with
surfing upon my first exposure. I have been bodyboarding, for 10 years,
but only seriously for 3 years. I am just beginning to travel in order
to gain knowledge and experience: SoCal in winter of 2001 and spring 2002,
including Huntington Beach, Seal Beach, Trestles, Black's, and San Clemente.
I hope to visit SoCal again in April 2003 for a few weeks. For now, I'm
a high school student at Eastern Technical enrolled in the Allied Health
program, where I hope to pursue a medical career. I also work at Oak Crest
Village. In between the few days I have off, I hope to venture the cold
waters at least a few times to release some stress and to just have fun
surfing!

Wanted to surf all my life.
Finally took a lesson in Hawaii in Oct 2001 and I've been on a mission
ever since. I've surfed Hawaii, Tortola, SoCal (San Clemente), Cocoa Beach
and Ocean City. I don't consider myself a beginner now, but I am working

Shortboarder - Cheaspeake
Beach, MD
Age: 27 - Hometown:
DeLand, FL
Surf History: Surfing 13
years. Grew up surfing NSB, Ponce and Daytona spots. Moved to MD
about 7 years ago and have stuck mostly to Assateague and mid-town OC.
Last season was my first time in water below 64F and first time surfing
DE beaches. I ride a 7' funshape for now but want to get back to a shorter
board. Favorite Spot: Playa Linda, FL... but anywhere it's breaking
will do. Funny Surf Story: Saw a friend take a fin in the sphincter
on a free-fall wipeout. You would be surprised how much a man bleeds
from an injury like that. Talk 'bout "rippin' a new one"... OUCH! |

Longboarder - Crownsville,

Began surfing while in High
School around 1993, but didn't get hooked until a trip to Nags Head. Originally
I learned on a shortboard, but switched to the longboard after borrowing
various friends boards.
Currently I go as often as
possible and usually with Mark Vermillion and Paul Martin, who are current
members. Took a trip to Costa Rica last January with Paul and some other
friends. I have also surfed MD, DE, NC, FL, and NJ. In addition,
my uncle has been a major surfing influence on
me due to his years of surfing
and many travels including Costa Rica before it got popular and Thailand.
Other interests include fishing and music. |

"Punchy" Phillips ("Flips")
Short/funboarder - Bowie,
MD
32-year old, born and raised
in Central New Jersey. Rode a ~48" inflatable raft with the Hawaiian Punch
logo on many a
family trip downee Shore.
Jersey wave knowlege helped when I finally learned to surf at the age of
25 after a move to Hermosa Beach, CA. Surfed El Porto, with jaunts
to Santa Cruz,
Huntington Beach, and San
Onofre. Moved to Maryland in 1999 and besides the DelMarVa, have surfed
Jersey, Hatteras, and Rhode Island (all better than the local breaks IMHO). Been pretty much in dry
dock since the birth of my son in Jan, 2003. Now (surprise, surprise) with
the birth of boy/girl twins in June 2004, my boards have fallen deeper
into the far corner of the basement. No worries, in 5 years or so I hope
to be back at the beach en force - teaching the groms to surf!

"El Tuna" Hoge ("Hogie")
Longboarder - Parkton, MD
Born and raised on Long Island
surfing the breaks at Gilgo, Democrat Point and Cedar Beach. Spent 6 years
in the Navy and got my fair share of waves in So. California, Va. Beach,
Oahu and even a few times in Antigua during hurricane season when the Carribean
really started to crank. Married, 2 kids, dog, job, mortgage, Blah Blah
Blah. Almost killed myself on the Banzai Pipeline after my skeg broke
during a bottom turn getting ready to trim a 15 foot hollow cement truck.
Just bought some property about 45 minutes south of Ocean City that includes
a shared portion of 42 acres on Cedar Island with a very nice surf break
that's just begging for some ASC action.

Moos
Longboarder - Baltimore,
MD
I am a 42yo, Bay Area (CA)
refugee, now teaching in Baltimore County - married, two kids, house...but
I thought I was the only one making the pilgramage from Baltimore to the
sea! Glad to know there are others out there. Sharing the ride (and the
stoke) seems like a great idea to me. After three years trying (fairly
successfully) to figure out surfing and surf forcasting on the right coast
(after coming from CA) I am delighted to find this club. I am past the
novice stage but no expert at all, comfortable in surf of most sizes as
long as it isn't breaking top to bottom, looking for company of similar
inclinations. I learned to surf in Santa Cruz and around the San
Francisco Bay Area,so I am used to fair sized surf. |

Rod
"El Suicidio Rodriguez" Rodgers
Paipo Boarder - Arbutus,
MD
I've been riding waves since
the late '60s, in Puerto Rico. My passion is combining travel and surf
-- Puerto Rico being my most frequent destination of choice. In addition
to the DelMarVa, I semi-regularly surf southern NJ, VaBeach, Cape Hatteras,
and San Diego County. I have also ridden the waves in SoCal up through
Ventura, N. Oregon, Baja, Oahu, Costa Rica and SW France. Also known as
"Jaco Taco," "The Rockman," and "eyore!"
Waveriding birthyear: 1967.
I birthed on a Hobie 9'4" noserider, quickly migrated to an Australian-made
7'6" V-bottom; started paipo boarding at the same time for riding places
like Gas Chambers in the pre-leash days. Had so much fun that the paipo
became my wave riding tool of choice. I birthed at Pine Grove, Jobos, and
Maria's Beach, PR (my first REAL wave).

I have had the pleasure and luck to traveling to Maui and living
on the west coast for a bit; good to be back home and love some shoreline

"Woody" Woodling
Bodyboarder - Baltimore,
MD
I'm 33 and I've lived in
MD since I was one, surfed East Coast from Del to NC, a place called the
'fish pass jetties' in Port Aransas TX, and several places in Kauai. Have
surfed some standup in the past on rented boards, not very proficiently,
though. Been going to OC/Del/Teague since I was a kid. Some of the best
trips were the impromptu "Friday night for the weekend" trips with no place
to stay and sleeping in my friend's jeep with no top in the empty garages
of the beach condos north of Fenwick, which were just being built at the
time... getting in the water first thing in the morning, getting kicked
off the beach by the police at night. Ahhh, the good ole' days.
My wife and I had our first child last year, so that, along with other
things, keeps me a little too busy.
